Tips for Starting a Blog on a Budget

In the past, if you wanted to start a blog, it would require a designer with expertise in building websites, but those days have changed. It’s now easier than ever to start your very own blog, and the best part is you can do it on a budget.

Here are some useful tips to starting your own blog on a budget.

Figure Out Your Niche

The first step when creating a blog is figuring out what topics your blog is going to cover. You can opt for a personal blog that covers a wide variety of topics, or you can focus on one larger topic that your content will be related to.

Picking a Name

The next step is to figure out what your blog”s domain name will be. A domain name is where your site will be located. For example the domain name for this website is “techehow.com”.

Just head over to a domain name registrar and search for your desired domain name.

I recommend getting a .com domain name if possible as this is obviously the most reputable looking to customers that aren’t tech savvy.

Setting Up Hosting

Once you’ve bought your domain name, you need to find a hosting provider that will host your website.

What does this mean?

Think of a domain name as your online business name, and your hosting provider is your landlord. As long as you make your monthly or yearly payments, your storefront will be open for the public to access.

Hosting can be pretty pretty inexpensive and is paid either monthly or yearly.

Install WordPress

Think of WordPress as a done-for-you website builder. The first step is to login to your hosting account, and there should be an option to install wordpress (most hosting providers will have step by step instructions on how to do this).

Once you’ve installed WordPress, you just need to head over to the Appearance section and choose your desired theme. Most themes are free, but if you”re looking for something more professional or custom, there are many paid themes for you to choose from online. Just do a Google search for “Wordpress Themes” and you’ll find a ton of great themes for anywhere between $40-$100.

Start Blogging

Once WordPress is installed and you’ve picked a theme. You are ready to start blogging.
