5 Ways The Right App Can Help You Design Your Living Room

Whether you are moving into a new home or redesigning your old one, interior design can be a lot of time, work, and money. The living room is often the focal point of the whole house or where you do the most entertaining, so it’s understandable that you want to get it right! If you’re doing it all on your own or hiring a professional, here are five things an interior design app can help you with when designing your living room

Color

This may seem obvious, but color is one of the first things people notice when they walk into a room. First, you’ll need to decide on a color palette. If you want to keep the room neutral without any pops of color, pick out a neutral palette to pull ideas from. On the other end of the spectrum, if you want a loud, busy room with lots of bright colors and patterns, you may not need to stick to one palette, but should still have an idea of what you want the main colors in the room to be. Decide on colors first and build the rest of your design around it.

Personality

Whether you live alone or this is the living room in your family home, the personality of the people who live there should shine through in common areas. If you have kids, you may consider hanging up some of their art work. If you really like cats and everybody knows that about you, you might choose to have a gallery wall of paintings of cats. Let whoever walks into your living room have a small glimpse of who you are.

Textiles

Don’t forget textiles! Rugs, sofas, chairs, blankets, pillows, and curtains are all important parts of a living room and bring texture to the space. Try to balance out the different fabrics – imagine how unwelcoming an entire living room filled with black leather might feel. If you have a black leather sofa, perhaps opt for a colorful velvet chair, or a fun patterned rug.

Cost

As with any interior design, costs will add up quickly. Before you even begin the project, decide on a budget and stick to it. Add up estimates of what you think things will cost, and determine whether there are certain things you’re willing to do without to keep costs down. This is your home and you want it to be your happy place, but it’s not worth going into debt for!

Designing your living room is very exciting and doesn’t have to be stressful if you use an app to help you along the way. Just be clear with yourself or your designer about what you want, let your personality shine, and stick to your planned budget.  Before you know it you’ll have the living room of your dreams.
